The default type size of Web browsers is 12 point, that is, of course, unless you've changed the browser settings. Most people do this for a reason -- most often to make type bigger so it's easier to read. However, the font size does get changed to a smaller size to get more information on-screen, or because they find the smaller text to be sharper or easier to read.
